How to Create A Handprint Dinosaur Kids Craft

Kids will LOVE being able to use their hands to make this dinosaur. It’s a really easy way for them to take control and make it their own. In this video, I demonstrate how you can make this craft, but get the kids involved throughout the whole process, not just the handprint! Younger kids may need some help, and even if it doesn’t look perfect, that’s totally ok! You could even do one every year and watch the dinosaur handprint grow bigger and the drawings more sophisticated as your child develops their fine motor skills!

Tips for Making This Dinosaur Kids Craft

Here are a few tips and tricks to making the most out of this handprint dinosaur kids craft!

First off, you can make handprints with lots of different art mediums. One of the ways we love making them is with stamp pads! Just press your hand down on the stamp pad until you see the hand covered with color! Handprints often come out even and dry very quickly. But the best part about them? The ink is totally washable! Of course, you can always use paint – the tempera paint will be the washable kind!

Also, make sure you allow for drying time if you add a stick border. We used tacky glue as it provides a long lasting hold, but that also means it doesn’t dry immediately like hot glue! Making the stick border was one of our favorite parts. Definitely enjoy some time outside collecting the perfect sticks to make the coolest looking texture to your frame!

Step-by-Step Instructions

Have your little one put their hand on the ink pad and then press their hand down on a white piece of construction paper.

Step 3

Cut out the entire dinosaur and glue it onto another piece of paper.

Step 4

Why We Love This Dinosaur Kids Craft

Handprint art is great because it gives your child a wonderful sensory activity. Not only are they imagining how it’s going to look throughout the process and at the end, but they’re also feeling their way through the process.

This type of project is a great way to increase their creativity because it shows them that there are so many different ways to create different kinds of art. They may have never thought to use their hands as a central part of a piece of art!

This dinosaur kids craft is perfect for working on their scissors skills as well as their hand-eye coordination. Since they’ll be cutting and gluing, it’s the perfect way to give them more practice in those areas.
