This easy-to-make color matching activity is also a great way to strengthen fine motor skills. The kids will be able to use tongs and place the correct colored pom poms into the same colored tube all on their own! This is great for both finger muscles and hand-eye coordination!

This may be tricky for some kids to use, but the more they practice, the more their hand-eye coordination and finger muscles will strengthen. Toddlers who are not quite ready to use tongs yet, can use their hands to transfer the pom poms into the paper tube.

Tips for Making This Color Matching Activity
Colors. Make paper tubes colorful by using acrylic paint, or an even faster process for grown ups to do is use spray paint!
Cardboard. Cardboard makes the best puzzle boards! It is thick and durable. But the best part? It’s a free resource if you have constant at-home deliveries like us!
Tongs. For the added fine motor strengthening component of this activity, get some tongs that are kid-friendly! We bought a set that are for serving hors d’oeuvre – they are small and easier for kids to use.

Materials
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1
Cut toilet paper tubes in half (or leave them whole for double the filling!). Paint tubes — acrylic paint, tempera paint sticks, spray paint, whatever you have on hand!
Step 2
Glue painted tubes down to a piece of cardboard. I used hot glue since it dries super fast. For the older kids, grab a tong and set aside pom poms, or bottle caps, or erasers, anything smallish that will fit inside. And watch those fine motor skills at work!
