How To Make This Easy Activity for Toddlers
The key to making this a color recognition activity, is to make your paper tubes colorful! You can use regular paint or spray paint, which will give you the fastest drying results. Alternatively, you can use colorful tape around a portion of the paper tube to designate it a particular color.
The other important tip in creating this set up is using a strong double sided tape or painters tape to secure the paper tubes to the wall!
With respect to toddlers using pom poms, it is important to keep in mind that objects like pom poms and marbles are small parts and are a choking hazard. Adult supervision is required! Pom poms can be sold in an extra large size which may be preferred for children who are very young and tempted to put them in their mouths.

Educational Benefits of This Easy Activity for Toddlers, and Beyond
There is so much to learn from this easy activity for toddlers and beyond. I want to reiterate beyond, because even older kids can enjoy using simple materials like these paper tubes and pom poms in a meaningful way!
Color recognition. As mentioned above, this activity is first and foremost a crash course in color recognition! Making the paper tubes colorful allows a child to match the pom poms and drop them through.
Fine Motor Skills. Picking up small objects like pom poms strengthens pincer grasp, an important fine motor skill! Plus, pushing those pom poms through the small hole into the paper tubes works more of those small muscles in the fingers and hands. Strengthening fine motor skills is critical at this young age! Placing the pom poms inside the paper tubes over and over again is also great hand-eye coordination practice!
Physics. This simple activity for toddlers can also be lots of fun for older kids! By using double sided tape, you can make the pom poms moveable so kids can experiment with angles, speed, velocity, and more! It is a great way to introduce physics, engineering, and problem solving at an early age!
