Nature Walk Scavenger Hunt – Color Matching Art

nature-walk-scavenger-hunt-color-matching-art

This nature walk scavenger hunt is the perfect way to get the kids outside and to work on color recognition, too. They’ll love being able to explore and have a fun seek-and-find adventure that will turn into a creative art project they will absolutely love!

Color Matching That Creates Art

This fun and interactive nature activity combines two things that kids love: using their hands to create, and getting outside and exploring. Not only does this help them get outside and get active, but it also helps them identify various colors and match them up together as well.

This simple activity will open your eyes to the beautiful colors of nature all around us! Unless on our own property, we made sure that we only picked up fallen flowers in our neighborhood so as to not upset any neighbors!

A Colorful and Fun Way To Help Kids Learn!

Making silly nature hair art is just one way to make art with nature! This color activity is great for teaching the colors of the rainbow, so making a rainbow out of the leaves and flowers is fun too! Whatever you decide, once the colors gathered, the most important thing to do is have fun and be creative!

Below are simple step-by-step directions on how I set up the nature hair activity, but if you’d like to create nature art or a nature collage and preserve it be sure to add a decoupage sealant! This will allow the flowers to retain some of their colors.

Step 1

Grab a piece of cardboard and trace around the base of an old can to create six circles on the cardboard – these are your heads so be sure to draw in some eyes and a mouth!

Step 2

Go on a nature walk and find as many colors as you can. Be sure to only pick up fallen leaves and flowers unless otherwise given permission to pick!

Step 3

Use double sided tape on top of the head to create a surface to stick on the leaves and flowers as if they were hair!

The Educational Benefits of this Nature Walk Scavenger Hunt Activity

Your child will be able to learn so much from this color hunt activity. First and foremost, this activity will inspire a love for nature. There is a tremendous amount to enjoy just by going outside and observing the world around us. It will encourage curiosity, bolster language development, and get kids on their feet and exercising those gross motor skills! Plus here are some more skills to strengthen:

Color Recogition. This activity is a great way to help them understand the colors of the rainbow and talk about color combinations, too.

Hand Eye Coordination. Kids can also use this activity to work on their hand-eye coordination to find items in nature and place them accurately as hair on the art project!

Math. The flowers and leaves that they’re adding to the picture can be a fun and unique way to work out their counting skills, too. Have them count how many leaves or flowers it takes to create a wacky hairdo on top of the heads.

If your kiddos love exploring nature, you have to try our DIY crystals science experiment. A fun project for the rock and gem lover!
